Located at the bottom of a bluff some 2 miles from the entrance to the hallowed Muir Woods National Monument, Muir Beach is a sedate beachside community with an enviable view of the San Francisco Bay and the Pacific Ocean.

The houses with direct access to the coarse-sand beach dotted with some sand and rock boulders are, expectedly, quite posh. Most have strategically designed their windows to maximize the breathtaking views across the beach out to the Pacific Ocean.

The beach appears to be frequented by the local community eager for some fun in the sun, students from San Francisco on their summer break, and tourists to the Muir Woods National Park. Pooches are welcome for a splash too.

While the beach may not be quite as vast or impressive as, say, Ocean Beach, it is nonetheless charming, pristine, laidback, and therapeutic in its own inimitable way.
